Team Description The Commercial Bank Data Science team enables machine learning and generative AI capabilities within the Commercial Bank. We work end to end from concept to production, focusing on experimentation, predictive modeling and generative AI. The ideal candidate will be deeply passionate about AI and have prior experience applying AI/ML in finance. Role Description In this role, you will: Partner with a cross‑functional team of data scientists, software engineers, and product managers to deliver high‑impact AI infused transformations to the Commercial Bank Leverage a broad stack of technologies — Python, AWS, Spark, and more — to reveal insights from large volumes of numeric and textual data Build machine learning and generative AI solutions through all phases of development—from design through training, evaluation, validation, and implementation Mine for real time insights hidden in large internal and external datasets to inform business decisions Translate the complexity of your work into tangible business goals using strong interpersonal skills The Ideal Candidate is Innovative: you research and evaluate emerging technologies and apply state‑of‑the‑art methods and tools Creative: you tackle big, undefined problems and share new ideas Technical: you are comfortable with open‑source languages and have hands‑on experience building data science solutions using open‑source tools and cloud platforms Statistically‑minded: you have built models, validated them, backtested them, and can interpret metrics such as confusion matrices or ROC curves; you have experience with clustering, classification, sentiment analysis, time series, and deep learning Basic Qualifications Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining, one of the following with the expectation that the degree will be obtained on or before the start date: A Bachelor's Degree in a quantitative field plus 6 years of analytics experience A Master's Degree in a quantitative field or an MBA with a quantitative concentration plus 4 years of analytics experience A PhD in a quantitative field plus 1 year of analytics experience At least 1 year of experience leveraging open source programming languages for large‑scale data analysis At least 1 year of experience working with machine learning At least 1 year of experience utilizing relational databases Preferred Qualifications PhD in a STEM field with 3+ years of data science / AI experience in finance or banking At least 1 year of experience with AWS At least 4 years’ experience in Python, Scala, or R for large‑scale data analysis At least 4 years’ experience with machine learning At least 4 years’ experience with SQL Capital One will consider sponsoring a new qualified applicant for employment authorization for this position.
