Salary: $17-$20 based on experience

Position: GAP Year Medical Assistant

Classification: Hourly

Position Summary:
The Medical Assistant is responsible for triaging patients and setting up the exam rooms in preparation for the physician. This is a great opportunity to get experience from some of the top physicians and PAs, and get letters of recommendation and advice on navigating medical school.

Primary Responsibilities

Clinical Duties

• Taking medical histories
• Explaining treatment procedures to patients
• Preparing patients for examinations
• Assisting the physician during examinations
• Collecting and preparing laboratory specimens
• Performing basic laboratory tests
• Instructing patients about medication and special diets
• Preparing and administering medications, including intramuscular, intradermal, and subcutaneous injectionsincluding vaccinations/immunizations, as directed by a physician or other licensed provider
• Transmitting prescription refills as directed
• Phlebotomy
• Wound care and changing dressings
• Answer, scribe, and transfer incoming communication and inquiries by phone and email
• Respond and comply with requests for information
• Schedule, confirm, and maintain timely appoints of patients via phone, online, and patient portal
• Verify insurance information and verify co-pays, deductibles, and balances
• Inform patients of medical office policies and procedures
• Back-office support with chart prep, insurance verification, and pre-authorizations, as needed
• Respond to incoming medical record requests
• Maintain patient confidentiality at all times
• Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of medical terminology, procedures, and diagnoses preferred
• Understand general administrative processes
• Ability to multitask within a high-functioning, fast-paced, multidisciplinary medical center
• Working knowledge of healthcare insurance preferred
• Knowledge of EMR preferred
• Individuals must be skilled in verbal and written communication skills, able to read from a script
• Able to develop good customer relationships to achieve customer satisfaction
• Ability to self-manage and be productive with minimal supervision
• Project management
• Attention to detail
• Cheerful attitude
  

Qualifications:

• College Degree required
• No experience in a medical clinic is required.
