Job Summary

Under the risk management leadership of Otsuka America, Inc. (OAI), the Sr. Risk Manager is responsible for leading the development, implementation, and ongoing management of the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) program across Otsukas North American operations. This role spans all facets of ERM, including risk identification and prioritization, mitigation oversight, development of policies and procedures, system solutions, training, reporting, and stakeholder engagement. In addition to ERM, the Sr. Risk Manager will support risk response activities, including remediation efforts aligned with risk tolerance and internal controls.

Job Description

Aligned with global policies and requirements, this position will help lead the development, implementation, and execution of a comprehensive ERM program across the organizations diverse portfolio of operating entities in North America. This role will partner with executive leadership and functional managers to identify, assess, and prioritize risks to develop risk registers. Working with key leadership, this position will support the development and oversight of risk mitigation plans, risk monitoring, develop and monitor key risk indicators, and understand how risks potentially impact Company financials, operations, compliance, and reputation.

Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with local, regional and global stakeholders, design, implement, and continuously improve the regional ERM framework in alignment with Otsuka global policies and leading industry standards (e.g., COSO, ISO).
  • Partner with executive leadership and functional teams to conduct enterprise-wide risk assessments and identify key risks and emerging threats.
  • Lead the development and maintenance of risk registers, including risk appetite and tolerance statements.
  • Facilitate the creation, implementation, and monitoring of risk mitigation plans with clear ownership and measurable outcomes.
  • Support remediation efforts as part of risk response, ensuring alignment with internal controls and risk tolerance thresholds.
  • Serve as the central ERM contact across North American affiliates, ensuring consistency in risk practices while respecting local business models and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate with compliance, internal audit, legal, IT, information security, and other functions to ensure integrated risk management aligned with internal controls and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with Internal Audit to ensure risk response activities are effectively monitored and validated.
  • Act as the business owner for ERM systems; lead system implementations, upgrades, and enhancements to support program efficiency.
  • Educate and train stakeholders at all levels on ERM policies, processes, and relevant regulatory obligations.
  • Prepare and deliver risk reports, dashboards, and heat maps for executive leadership, risk committees, and Boards of Directors.
  • Identify and monitor key risk and performance indicators (KRIs/KPIs) to inform decision-making and drive continuous improvement.
  • Monitor cumulative risks that may emerge from operational areas and elevate into enterprise-level threats
  • Develop, maintain, and oversee ERM-related policies, procedures, and documentation.
  • Monitor and evaluate the overall effectiveness of the ERM program and drive enhancements as needed.
  • Foster a proactive risk-aware culture throughout the organization.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications / Required

Knowledge/ Experience and Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of risk management frameworks, principles, best practices, and procedures
  • Strong leadership, communication, and management skills
  • Experience implementing and managing risk management program organized around ISO and/or COSO standards
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrates both strong analytical and strategic thinking capabilities
  • Excellent business acumen and writing skills
  • Readily adaptable to the changing needs of the business; able to manage multiple priorities; tolerance for ambiguity
  • Ability to collaborate with multiple parties to solve problems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Work, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Ability to drive results and meet deadlines to reduce risks
  • Ability to use sound judgement, identify next steps to be taken, and develop appropriate solutions

Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in business, finance, risk management, or a relevant field or other relevant professional experience
  • 4 to 6 years of risk management experience, or experience in related field
  • Relevant certification such as CRM, FRM, CFA, CPA or CIA is strongly preferred.

Working Conditions

General office conditions, 10 - 15% travel required

Pay Range

The starting base pay for this position in the San Francisco Bay area is as shown below. The actual base pay is dependent upon a variety of factors such as professional background, training, work experience, location, business needs and market demand. Therefore, in some circumstances, the actual salary could fall outside of this expected range. This pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This position is also eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, paid time off, and a benefits package including but not limited to company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, prescription drug coverage, basic life, accidental death & dismemberment, short-term and long-term disability insurance, behavioral health assistance, tuition reimbursement, and a generous 401(k) match.
