Government Affairs Specialist

The Government Affairs Specialist supports Strategies' Federal Government Affairs team in Washington, D.C., conducting high-level federal policy work across healthcare, technology, energy, and financial services. Additionally, the Government Affairs Specialist provides significant exposure to federal policymaking, client engagement, and the operations of a top-tier bipartisan lobbying and strategic advisory practice.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and synthesize congressional hearings, markups, agency announcements, and key policy developments.
  • Produce concise memos, briefing materials, and PowerPoint decks for client meetings and internal strategy sessions.
  • Schedule, coordinate, and attend meetings with congressional offices, federal agencies, and coalition partners.
  • Draft and distribute client deliverables, including summaries, policy alerts, and meeting notes.
  • Maintain legislative tracking systems and update team calendars and priority lists.
  • Participate in client calls and team strategy meetings; capture action items and follow up on next steps.
  • Conduct background research on legislative issues, federal programs, and key policymakers.
  • Manage administrative and logistical needs to keep the team running smoothly, including meeting preparation, printing, and deliveries.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Communications, or related field.
  • Minimum two (2) years of professional experience in a government office, association, or consulting/lobbying environment.
  • Familiarity with legislative tracking tools beneficial.
