Job Description
General Manager
This position will be responsible for leading cemetery and funeral home operations, driving growth and profitability by ensuring the location attains case volume, revenue, and expense goals.

- Work in partnership with the Sales Manager and Funeral Manager to grow top line revenue, expand Preneed volume, improve market share, and develop an excellent customer experience
- Lead the financial performance of the market, being responsible for metrics that are in your control.
- Develop the Funeral, Sales, and Operations teams to improve the effectiveness of each department, independently and collaboratively
- Create a culture of high employee engagement through training, empowerment, and recognition
- Ensure that the facility is being maintained and consistently improved to create a space that pulls the community in
- Actively engage within the community to grow brand awareness and generate new business, leading the team to do the same
- Identify opportunities to maximize revenue through Sales, and Funeral development.
- Overseeing the funeral, sales, and cemetery departments are operating according to our company core values.
- GM is solely responsible for overseeing and ensuring that all contracts, IAs, and other business processes and paperwork are completed according to company standards and SOPs and the company handbook. This includes signing to authorize these types of documents.
- Implementing and overseeing a system that tracks and follows up on contracts that are delinquent on payments.
- Making sure the Funeral and Cemetery operations are compliant with the federal and state laws, using the Chief Operating Officer and Funeral Director in Full and Continuous Charge as a resource.
- The GM should find opportunities to be involved in the community as a representative of Southern Cremations and Funerals.
- The GM schedule is M-F, including discretionary Saturdays as needed.
- Will hold a daily staff meeting with all employees on location.
- Ensure the best-in-class treatment of families and deceased in our care with dignity and compassion per Company guidelines and training.
- Ensure that the care of deceased in prep room area, and crematory area are handled with the utmost respect
- Understand complete operation of the crematory and maintain a crematory operator’s license
- Work closely with all staff to insure seamless services for the families
- Responsible for the fleet maintenance
- Responsible for appearance of the cemetery and funeral home
- Become experienced in funeral and cemetery operations
- Train and hire staff
- Responsible for cost controls and profit margins
Requirements & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business or other related field
- Possess exceptional planning, organizational and time management skills, excellent people skills, and a passion for service.
- 5+ years’ experience in leadership with a deep understanding of sales, operations, and financial management
- Strong interpersonal, leadership and customer service skills with a proven record of accomplishment of developing teams
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and comfortable leveraging other technologies
- Self-motivated with the ability to think strategically and work independently
- Valid driver’s license
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus, but not required
- Ability to lift 60+ lbs. on your own
- Ability to lift and bend frequently
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time
Work Environment
- Work may be performed both indoors and outdoors regardless of weather conditions; Personnel may have exposure to various chemicals and fluids; cemetery personnel may have exposure to chemicals and equipment.
- Business attire is required. Personal safety equipment or appropriate attire may be required for cemetery and crematory environment.
