Job Title: Director of Risk Management 

Position Title: Director of Risk Management 

Report to: Associate Head of School for Finance and Operations 

Receive Guidance From: Senior Leadership Team, Head of School 

Collaborate Closely With: School Leadership Team 

Supervises: Director of Campus Safety 

The Director of Risk Management is responsible for identifying, evaluating, and mitigating potential risks within University Liggett School (ULS) by developing risk management policies, conducting risk assessments, implementing mitigation strategies, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations; overseeing the entire risk management process within ULS. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conducting comprehensive risk assessments across all aspects of the organization to identify potential threats and vulnerabilities. Analyze internal and external factors to determine the likelihood and severity of risks and prioritize policy and procedure development based on identified organizational risks. 
  • Creating and maintaining robust risk management policies and procedures including the development of guidelines and templates for risk identification, assessment, and mitigation strategies. Once in place, responsible for communication of these policies and procedures within the organization. 
  • Developing and implementing plans to address identified risks, including preventive measures, contingency plans, and risk transfer mechanisms. Collaborate with faculty and staff on implementing risk management controls. 
  • Regularly presenting risk assessments and mitigation plans to senior management and the board of directors. These assessments and plans need to communicate key risk indicators and potential issues to relevant stakeholders and maintain detailed documentation of risk management activities. 
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards related to risk management.
  • Monitor compliance with internal controls and risk mitigation strategies. 
  • Provide training and development opportunities for team members. 
  • Collaborate and support the Director of Campus Security in staying current with Campus Safety best practices and procedures. The Director of Campus Security will report to this position as one key aspect of risk management. 
  • Be the key campus resource for faculty, staff, and community members questions or concerns on risk management strategies, processes, and procedures.

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred 
  • 5-8 years of progressively responsible relevant experience; experience in an independent school setting is preferred 
  • Personnel management skills and 2-3 years of supervisory experience preferred 
  • Excellent communication skills, including strong written, oral and presentation skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a high level of sophistication and maturity in social and professional setting
  • Ability to work independently yet also as a contributing member of a high-functioning team

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: 

This is a full-time, twelve-month position. Limited travel and occasional weekend and evening work will be required.
