Description Principal Mission: Motivated and educational counseling of persons suffering from addiction illness. The Credential Addiction Substance Abuse Counselor conducts individual counseling sessions, opened and closed groups, family and conjoint counseling sessions. Presents alcoholism and substance abuse educational information to patients and significant others. Functions as a part of the inter-disciplinary team. Ensures referrals to modalities as determined by the needs of the patients. Responsible for writing clear, timely, concise progress notes, areas of conflict, short term, long term treatment planning, and psychosocial history. Assess new patients upon admission and conduct small group activities. Maintain and enhance professional growth and development through in-service training, seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations. Provide timely progress reports to referring agencies. Understand the Diversion Prevention Plan for the Methadone Substance Abuse Treatment Program and Medically Managed Detoxification Unit.
