Job Title: Aviation Public Safety Intern – Summer Internship

Location: Department of Aviation, City of Dallas

Pay Rate: $21.00/hour

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Overview

This Internship at Dallas Love Field Airport offers college students an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in Aviation Emergency Management, Aviation Security, and Communications Operations. Interns will rotate across the Airport Communications Center (ACC), Aviation Emergency Management, and Aviation Security Divisions, supporting real-world public safety initiatives in a dynamic aviation environment.

Essential Functions

• Assist with Aviation Emergency Management planning, training, and exercise development to enhance preparedness and response capabilities.
• Support the Airport Communications Center (ACC) by shadowing dispatchers, monitoring aviation communication systems, and learning about airport-wide incident coordination.
• Participate in aviation security initiatives, including security compliance inspections, credentialing processes, and access control procedures.
• Conduct research, compile reports, and assist with data collection for public safety programs and operational improvements.
• Observe and contribute to emergency response operations during drills, special events, and real-time incidents.
• Support stakeholder engagement efforts, including assisting with public safety education and outreach programs.

Knowledge and Skills

• Strong written and verbal communication skills for professional interactions with airport personnel, stakeholders, and emergency responders.
• Basic understanding of emergency management, public safety, or aviation operations (coursework or prior experience preferred).
• Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and ability to learn industry-specific software.
• Interest in public safety, crisis management, and aviation security with a willingness to learn from experienced professionals.

Work Experience & Education

• Previous internship or volunteer experience in emergency management, security, law enforcement, aviation operations, or communications is beneficial but not required.
• Experience in customer service or administrative support roles is a plus.
• Must be a current college or university student pursuing a degree in Emergency Management, Homeland Security, Criminal Justice, Aviation Management, Public Administration, Communications, or a related field
