Overview:

JPW Structural Contracting located in Syracuse, NY is currently seeking an Assistant Estimator to join their team!

An Assistant Estimator plays a key role in the success of the Company. They must be sure to follow company policies, operations and work in harmony with co-workers to ensure the Companys success. They perform the day-to-day activities required of them in the office, shop, and field, with the goal of meeting deadlines set forth by the VP and its customers. T hey assist or take the lead in determining how much structural steel, or other related material, is needed for a construction job. Job duties include reviewing blueprints from the architects or civil engineers; making estimates about the quantity, safety needs, and costs of the steel; and reporting to project managers.

Responsibilities:

Estimating:

• Responsible for accurate material take-off
• Quantifies number of field (in some cases shop and detailing) hours to erect structural steel and miscellaneous metals
• Determines installation schemes to establish crew sizes and duration
• Evaluates all contract documents including all bid drawings, specs, general conditions and if necessary, the project site
• Determines scope of work for our trade and determines vague areas to qualify bids
• Develops comprehensive, detailed proposal for the project estimated

USD $30.00/Hr.

Qualifications:

• Written and verbal communication skills
• Capacity to manage high stress situations
• Mathematical ability
• Critical thinking
• Ability to multi-task and manage various project elements simultaneously
• Bachelors degree in Construction Management or related field (preferred)
• 1-2 years experience as an Assistant Estimator in related field

Physical Requirements

• Must pass a pre-employment drug test and be subject to random testing during course of employment.
• Acceptable visual acuity, either corrected or uncorrected.
• Able to sit at a computer for several hours a day.

Our bays are all equipped with 2 10-ton overhead cranes to provide us with the capability to tackle even the largest jobs. Our facility also includes an in-house detailing department utilizing the most up to date and innovative software available, giving JPW the edge when it comes to complex projects.

JPW Fabrication Specialties include but are not limited to the following:

• Multi-story Bldgs. and Commercial Retail stores
• Electrical Substation Steel- Design/ Build
• Steel Truss Fabrication & plate girders
• In house Sand blasting and painting booths.
• Ornamental Handrails, Aluminum, Carbon, and Stainless Steel
• Miscellaneous Steel Design and Fabrication, Load testing (ie. Stairs, Ladders, Lifting fixtures, Spreader beams, Pusher Snow plows, buckets, blade fixtures)
• Plate Weldment Fabrications/ in house bending & rolling capabilities
• Press breaks up to 12 long with 250 ton capacities
